Design

Ekowater’s screen grit chamber is an integrated device that separates mechanically municipal and industrial sewage. Its monolithic construction occupies limited space in comparison with traditional designs and can combine:
  • separation and removal of solid contaminants
  • separation and removal of mineral contaminants
  • separation and removal of grease
  • removal of organic matter from the sand

Equipment and function

Sieve – solid contaminants are separated on a straining sieve, which can be optionally rotary or spiral.
Types of sieves:
- sieve with rotary basket equipped with hydraulic rinsing system. The segmented design of the sieve enables the use of cleaning brush in the basket. As per our client’s instructions the basket may be constructed from duplex stainless steel AISI 316 or AISI 304. Effective cleaning of the sieve prevents decrease of its capacity.
- spiral sieve is equipped with the spiral and the brush that cleans perforations of the sieve basket. Depending on our client’s requirements the spiral sieve may be constructed from duplex stainless steel AISI 316 or AISI 304. Moving spiral with the brush collects screenings from the sieve and transports them to the integrated press where they are dewatered and shrunk.
Both rotary sieve and spiral sieve are integrated with shaft conveyor where the screenings are rinsed, dewatered and pressed.

Grit chamber – the process of sedimentation in horizontal grit chamber is implemented when the velocity after mechanical separation of solid contaminants on the sieve diminishes. Sinking sand is transported on the shaft conveyor to the tank and then to the integrated grit washer (additional equipment) where the mineral substances are separated. Washed and dewatered sand is transported to the container.

Grease trap – is an optional element of the screen grit chamber and it separates and removes grease from wastewater. Fatty contaminants inside grease separator are isolated by flotation process. An aeration tube, placed along horizontal grit chamber, automatically sweeps the contaminants and the pump in grease chamber removes them.

Integrated grit washer – is an optional accessory of the screen grit chamber
Mineral contaminants separated in horizontal grit chamber are transmitted on the shaft conveyor to the integrated grit washer. Installing it inside the monolithic structure means that less space is used and significant savings are generated in contrast to traditional individual devices.
Integrated grit washer separates organic matter from mineral contaminants.
